Route diversions, reduced cargo capacity, and potential shipment delays.

05/03/2026

The current geopolitical situation in the Middle East is generating significant effects on the global logistics system, impacting major international transport flows by air and sea. The closure of several airspaces and the operational restrictions introduced in certain strategic areas are causing route diversions, reduced cargo capacity, and potential shipment delays.

Air Freight

Flight cancellations and diversions involving Gulf hubs are significantly reducing cargo capacity availability on routes between Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania.

This situation may result in:
• longer transit times
• congestion at airport hubs
• limited cargo space availability on flights
• sudden freight rate fluctuations

Ocean Freight

Sea transport is also experiencing repercussions. Some carriers are temporarily suspending transit through the Strait of Hormuz and the Suez Canal, diverting routes around the Cape of Good Hope.

This may lead to:
• longer transit times on Asia–Europe routes
• possible delays in port calls
• reduced available capacity
• increased volatility in ocean freight rates

Rail and Road Transport

At present, no significant impacts have been reported on international rail transport.

However, in European road transport, the application of PFS (Peak Fuel Surcharges) is expected due to the increase in fuel costs.

The Prima Logistics team is continuously monitoring the evolution of the situation in order to support customers in planning shipments and identifying the most effective logistics solutions.

We also encourage companies to review their insurance coverage, considering potential surcharges related to war risk, bunker adjustment, and congestion fees.

We will promptly update our customers should further relevant developments arise.
